Members from the Land Mobile Communications Council (LMCC) and Federal Communications Commission (FCC) representatives from multiple bureaus met yesterday and began the necessary dialogue to address and hopefully resolve multiple incidences of co-channel and adjacent channel interference to land mobile systems from digital television (DTV) stations in urban areas such as Dallas, Houston, New York, Chicago, and San Francisco, among others. The LMCC agreed to immediately form a Working Group to collaborate with the FCC in identifying potential solutions. According to LMCC President Klaus Bender, “Some instances of interference may be resolved by simply enforcing existing rules, other cases will be more challenging given the lack of spectrum alternatives for both land mobile and DTV licensees. But this is a good start.”
