LMCC Requests FCC to Ensure LPTV Stations Protect Land Mobile

In a letter filed January 11, the Land Mobile Communications Council (LMCC) reminded the Media Bureau of the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) that requests to relocate low-power television (LPTV) stations should comply with FCC rules that protect Part 90 incumbent wireless systems. Recent interference issues involving broadcast and land mobile stations have made LMCC members wary of any proposed changes to LPTV channels and locations, and the LMCC trusts that changes to LPTV licenses will be reviewed for compliance with Rule Section 73.623(e) that mandates minimum separation distances between land mobile and adjacent digital television (DTV) stations.

The LMCC also supports the enforcement of Rule Section 73.687(e)(4)(ii) that requires Channel 14 TV permittees to install filters and take other precautions as necessary and submit evidence that no interference is being caused to land mobile operations before it will be permitted to transmit programming.
