LMCC Seeks T-Band Filing Extension
In a letter filed December 10, 2021, the Land Mobile Communications Council (LMCC) urged the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) to extend until June 30, 2022, the filing window during which incumbents in 470-512 MHz (T-Band) may modify existing systems. In addition, the LMCC asked the Wireless Telecommunications Bureau and Public Safety and Homeland Security Bureau to “confirm that there are no current plans to rescind the Public Notice suspending the filing and processing of applications in the band by new applicants.”
One of the issues remains the flawed list of television stations incumbent T-Band applicants are required to protect, including stations “that have been taken out of operation or because they are transmitting on digital channels that are not affected by T-Band systems.” These “ghost” stations have “presented significant obstacles to the orderly resumption of T-Band application and licensing processes.” Some applicants have been required to “modify system parameters to less than optimal configurations which they will adjust when and if the protected television station list is corrected.”
On this matter, LMCC President David Smith stated, “the LMCC is sensitive to the unique issues that incumbent licensees are facing. Therefore, the delay we are requesting today is absolutely essential.”
